Submit Papers on Writing for the WSU Vancouver Writing Center Journal, Centerpoint.

VANCOVER, WASH. – Centerpoint, a journal published by the staff of the Writing
Center at Washington State University Vancouver, under the supervision of Kandy
Roberston, Ph. D., is currently seeking articles on writing and the writing process. Artist-
poet Richard F. Yates, and humorous newspaper columnist Richard O’Brien helm the
current incarnation of the journal, which is dedicated to publishing materials dealing with
all forms of writing from crafting academic papers to writing fiction, creative nonfiction,
and poetry. The audience for the journal is comprised of students, faculty, professionals,
and technical writers.

The journal is currently publishing four issues per year, and runs between 16 and 32
pages per issue. Unfortunately, there is no pay for accepted articles at this time, but
publication credit can be just as important. Individual journal issues will be published as
downloadable PDF files on the WSU Vancouver Writing Center website.

To submit work for consideration, please email your article in .doc or .rtf format as an
attachment to the Writing Center’s address: writingcenter@vancouver.wsu.edu. Please
include the phrase “Submission – Centerpoint” and your name in the subject line. In
addition, include a brief biographical statement in the body of the message. The editors
are seeking articles of up to 1,200 words maximum. International articles written in
English are welcome. Articles from professors and other faculty are encouraged.

It’s Time to Make Your Plans to Attend the IWCA Writing Center Summer Institute

Imagine five days of stimulating discussions with writing center colleagues from the U.S. and abroad, changing hearts and minds about matters of teaching and learning, sharing insights and practices about technology and assessment, and discovering new approaches to help your tutors better understand and help second-language writers. Imagine all this taking place this summer at a lovely resort in the lush, green mountains of western Pennsylvania.

If you’ve been thinking about attending a Writing Center Summer Institute, start making plans for this summer! Plans for the Summer Institute are well under way and it’s shaping up to be a feast for writing center minds and souls. Registration is open! Scholarships are available, and you can apply now.

The IWCA Summer Institute is ideal for current or would-be writing center directors and assistants, writing program administrators, tutors, writing teachers (high school or college), curriculum developers, graduate students, and academic leaders both in the U.S. and abroad. Institute leaders offer presentations and roundtable discussions on a variety of topics and issues. Because of the low participant-to-leader ratio and limited enrollment, there are many opportunities to talk one-on-one with leaders and other participants throughout the week.

Leaders for the 2012 Writing Center Summer Institute:

· Tammy Conard-Salvo, Purdue University

· Brian Fallon, Fashion Institute of Technology

· Nancy Grimm, Michigan Technological University

· Melissa Ianetta, University of Delaware

· Jennifer Wells, Florida State University, formerly Mercy High School

· Ben Rafoth, SI co-chair, Indiana University of Pennsylvania

· Nathalie Singh-Corcoran, SI co-chair, West Virginia University

The 2012 Summer Institute will be held July 29-August 3, 2012 at Seven Springs Mountain Resort, located about one hour?s drive southeast of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the beautiful Laurel Mountain region. Air travel is to Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT).

The ECWCA Board is now looking for hosts for the 2013 East Central Writing Center Association Conference. Traditionally, the ECWCA Conference is held over two consecutive days‚ typically a Friday and Saturday‚ during March or early April. The conference attracts about 200-300 writing center tutors and administrators from the region. The board works closely with the conference hosts throughout the entire process. Most hosts are able to fund the conference with seed money from the board and from conference registrations; hosts do not need to fund the conference from their own coffers. Schools that are in the same city or nearby can also apply to be co-hosts to split the responsibilities.

If you are even the slightest bit curious or just would like more information about hosting, please contact the current president Jackie Grutsch McKinney (jrmckinney@bsu.edu) who can provide you with details, encouragement, the application, and very helpful conference planning guide.
